Belgium
Sandwiched between the UK, Holland, France and Germany causes many to overlook this small, beautiful country, but Belgium is in fact a wonderful travel destination with its own unique history. In addition to its place as a world government cornerstone and the home of the European Union, Belgium also is a calm, quiet country in which one can find great food and drinks, wonderful museums, and plenty to do in an environment that is very much a European melting-pot. Enjoy these travel tips next time you're there:
Capital City: Brussels
Language: Belgium is surrounded on three sides by the Netherlands, France and Germany, making Dutch, French and German all very important languages that are nearly equally used. English is widely spoken, and English-speakers shouldn't have any problems getting around.
Currency: Euro (EUR). EUR is currently 0.93 for 1 USD.
Power Adapter: In Belgium the power sockets are of type E. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
Crime & Safety: Belgium has traditionally been a very safe city, and largely remains so in spite of recent terrorist activity in Brussels and other scattered areas. Still, the likelihood of being party to an attack remains minuscule, and one should freely enjoy travel while being mindful of the usual pick-pocketing that happens in many travel destinations.
